Cornerstone

You see no bodies
Only steps
Upon which
You can ascend the heights

They are the people
You sacrificed
On the altar
Of your vain ambition.

You continue to build
Your monumental disaster
A towering Babel
For your own renown.

Dead people
Turn back to dust
And with that
The whole thing crumbles

As you leave the ruins behind
Be careful not to stumble over
The Cornerstone.

Upon Reflection

We live on the surface
Tranquil, unruffled
A mirror reflecting back
Our own image.

We gaze Narcissus like,
In love with our own reflection
But dive under the surface
Into the deep

It is disturbing how much
Comes up from the cloudy depths
Of things we thought long settled.

Listen

I do not need your mouth
Unless it is to kiss me tenderly

I do not need your mouth
Unless it is to breathe life into me

I need your ears.
